GAERF Chairman J. Kenneth Garner Talks about MAKE YOUR MARK

"The Foundation’s goal in the MAKE YOUR MARK campaign is to raise awareness of our industry in the next generation of workers by putting colorful information about exciting career opportunities directly into their hands and the hands of people who influence their career decisions – parents, teachers and guidance counselors," said GAERF Chairman J. Kenneth Garner, President of United Litho, Ashburn, Virginia

"MAKE YOUR MARK is the culmination of four years of work by the Foundation to address the issue of finding and recruiting skilled workers for the industry," Garner said.

"We began with research into critical issues facing the industry and how young people make career decisions. We then commissioned LearningWorks, a full-service educational marketing agency, to develop customized curriculum materials incorporating the research findings and a distribution database.

"We also want to encourage people in the industry to get involved by contacting their local schools and offering opportunities for students to have hands-on contact with our industry through plant tours, job shadowing and mentoring programs," he said. "In this respect, GAERF is especially grateful to the industry leaders who have provided financial support to MAKE YOUR MARK in the form of donated paper and printing to produce the more than 2 million individual pieces of printed material included in the campaign."

Paper for the project was supplied by Domtar Industries and Roosevelt Paper. Printing was supplied by Automated Graphic Systems, Dynacolor Graphics, Inc., Heidelberg USA and Komori America Corporation. Quebecor World Northeast Graphics provided the setting for photographs used in MAKE YOUR MARK materials.
